In Canvas, you need to do a few things to make Google Drive and documents work. The first is to add Google drive as an approved web service - here are instructions:

Once you've completed that step, open your course and in the course menu on the left, click Google Drive to Authorize use for the course.
If it will not Authorized use in the Course, please make sure you have Chrome Privacy and security General settings for cookies set to "Block third-party cookies in Incognito".
In Chrome
- Click the 3-dot menu in the upper right corner
- Select Settings
